This invention relates to the use of polyanionic benzylglycosides as smooth muscle cell proliferation inhibitors and as therapeutic compositions for treating diseases and conditions which are characterized by excessive smooth muscle proliferation, such as restenosis. The compounds of this invention are those of formula (I) wherein each of R1, R2, R3, and R4 are, independently, H, SO3M, or (A); and each oligosaccharide group contains 1 to 3 sugar groups; M is lithium, sodium, potassium, or ammonium; n is 1 or 2; X is hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or lower alkoxy having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; Y is carbonyl or sulfonyl; Z is alkyl having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, (a), (b), (c), or (d); and X is as defined above; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
Cette invention se rapporte à l'utilisation de benzylglycosides polyanioniques comme inhibiteurs de la prolifération cellulaire des muscles lisses sous forme de compositions thérapeutiques pour traiter les maladies et états se caractérisant par une prolifération excessive des cellules des muscles lisses, telle que la resténose. L'invention se rapporte également à des composés de la formule (I) dans laquelle chacun des R?1¿, R?2¿, R?3¿ et R?4¿ représentent indépendamment H, SO¿3?M ou (A), et chaque groupe d'oligosaccharides contient 1 à 3 groupes de sucre; M représente du lithium, sodium, potassium, ou de l'ammonium; n vaut 1 ou 2; X représente hydrogène, halogène, alkyle inférieur possédant 1 à 6 atomes de carbone ou alcoxy inférieur possédant 1 à 6 atomes de carbone; Y représente carbonyle ou sulfonyle; Z représente alkyle possédant 1 à 12 atomes de carbone, (a), (b), (c) ou (d); et X est défini tel que ci-dessus; ou à des composés d'un sel pharmaceutiquement acceptable des composés cités.
