- 32 - HOE 89/F 144 Abstract of the disclosure Indane-containing polyaryl ether ketones, and the use of amorphous polyaryl ether ketones for optical systems. Novel amorphous, linear polyarly [sic] ether ketones which contain indane-containing components have high glass transition points and are readily processible. These and known amorphous aromatic polyaryl ether ketones comprising at least one structural unit of the formula -O-A-O-B- (I) are used for the production of elements for optical systems. The radical A is derived from polynuclear aromatic dihalogen compounds whose aromatic rings are connections [sic] to one another via CO groups, while B is the radical of mononuclear or polynuclear diphenols. The polyaryl ether ketones preferably have certain characteristics with respect to limiting viscosity, melt flow index (MPI), refractive index, density, water absorption and Abbe number. Optical systems are lenses, prisms, corrected lens systems, achromatic lenses, illumination and projection systems, optical waveguides, optical coatings and bases for optical coatings.
