ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides a process for ob- taining mixed acid compositions having significantly in- creased polybasic acid contents from polymerized fatty acids. The improved polybasic acid compositions are obtained by heating a polymerized fatty acid containing 50% or more dimer acid in the presence of a free radical initiator. In addition to significantly increased polybasic acid con- tents the resulting products have essentially all the car- boxyl functionality available as -COOH.
