Chewing gum and confection compositions that inhibit the buildup of plaque and other debris on teeth, comprising polybutene with a molecular weight of 300 to about 3000. Upon its release from the gum or confection piece by chewing or dissolving the polybutene forms a protective coating on the hard tissue surfaces of the oral cavity and may, optionally, provide sustained release of a cosmetic and/or therapeutic active ingredient to deliver prolonged therapeutic, prophylactic and/or cosmetic benefits.

L'invention concerne du chewing-gum et des produits de confiserie agissant contre la formation de plaque dentaire et autres accumulations de débris à la surface des dents, qui renferment du polybutylène de poids moléculaire compris entre 300 et environ 3000. Lorsque le polybutylène est libéré du produit par mastication ou dissolution, un revêtement protecteur est constitué sur les surfaces de tissu dur dans la cavité buccale. Eventuellement, il est possible de prévoir une libération prolongée de principe actif cosmétique et/ou thérapeutique, ce qui permet d'entretenir durablement un bienfait thérapeutique, prophylactique et/ou cosmétique.
