ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Novel polycarbonates having outstanding utility as dual purpose oxidative and ultraviolet inhibition agents when incorporated into certain polymers, particularly polyolefins are preferably prepared by capping free hydroxy chain ends in polycarbonate molecules. The compositions are characterized by the general formula: Image wherein R' is a secondary or tertiary alkyl, R'' is hydrogen and R''' and R'''' are hydrogen or alkyl. X is sulphur, a carbonyl group or a carbon chain, Y is substituted or unsubstituted carbophenoxy, Z is substituted or unsubstituted phenoxy or the group: Image n is from 1 to 10.
