A new polycyclic peptide antibiotic, named gallidermin, is produced by cultivation of the microorganism Staphylococcus gallinarum. Callidermin and its acid addition salts display broad spectrum antibiotic activity and are useful for combatting and treating bacterial infections. In particular, they are active against important strains of Propionibacterium acnes and are there- fore useful in combatting skin infections such as acne, eczema, impetigo and cellulitis.
