ABSTRACT Disclosed in a nonwoven fabric which is nonspunbonded. It comprises a first layer of thermoplastic binder fiber and a matrix fiber. The matrix fiber is at least one of a second thermo- plastic, cotton, wool and regenerated cellulose fibers. It also comprises a second layer which consists of a thermoplastic binder fiber which has a softening point lower than the melting point of the matrix fiber. The first and second layers are bonded by heat and pressure to form the fabric, which is free of standing surface fibers.
