Disclosed is a specific polyester resin obtained by further reacting a polyesterpolyol oligomer having a specific monomer composition with a polyvalent carboxylic acid (anhydride) or the like. Also disclosed are a thermosetting aqueous coating composition using such a polyester resin and a method for forming a coating film wherein such a coating composition is used.
