An isotropic polyester polymer and method for making the polyester is prepared by (1) combining in a reactor a monomer containing a terephthaloyl moiety; optionally, one or more other monomers containing an aromatic diacid moiety; a monomer comprising an ethylene glycol moiety; a monomer containing an isosorbide moiety; optionally, one or more other monomers containing a diol moiety; and optionally, a monomer containing a diethylene glycol moiety; with a condensation catalyst suitable for condensing aromatic diacids and glycols; and (2) heating the monomers and catalyst to polymerize the monomers to yield a polyester having an inherent viscosity of at least about 0.35 dL/g.

La présente invention concerne un polymère polyester isotropique et un procédé de fabrication de ce polyester. Ce procédé consiste à: (1) combiner dans un réacteur une fraction de téréphthaloyle, éventuellement un ou plusieurs monomères renfermant une fraction diacide aromatique, un monomère comprenant une fraction d'éthylène glycol, un monomère renfermant une fraction d'isosorbide, éventuellement un ou plusieurs autres monomères renfermant une fraction de diol, éventuellement un monomère renfermant une fraction de diéthylène glycol, avec un catalyseur capable de condenser des diacides aromatiques et des glycols; et (2) chauffer les monomères et le catalyseurs de manière à polymériser ces monomères et obtenir un polyester dont la viscosité inhérente est d'au moins 0,35 dl/g.
