Disclosed are novel saturated polyether compounds comprised of n units of residue (1) and m units of residue (2), wherein (i) residues (1) and (2) have the structures (1) and (2); (ii) the total value of n + m is 2 to 70 and m/(n + m) is 0.05 to 0.98; (ii) at least 98 percent of the terminal hydroxyl groups of the polyether have the structure (3) or (4). The polyethers are obtained by first polymerizing 3,4-epoxy-1-butene to produce unsaturated polyether precursors comprising residues (1A) and (2A) having the structures (1A) and (2A), and then hydrogenating the unsaturated polyether precursors. The hydrogenation advantageously is performed in the presence of a nickel hydrogenation catalyst.

L'invention se rapporte à de nouveaux composés de polyéther saturés constitués de n unités de résidus (1) et m unités de résidus (2), dans lesquels (i) les résidus (1) et (2) ont les structures (1) et (2); (ii) la valeur totale de n + m est comprise entre 2 et 70 et celle de m/(n + m) est comprise entre 0,05 et 0,98; (ii) au moins 98 % des groupes hydroxyles terminaux du polyéther ont la structure (3) ou (4). Les polyéthers sont obtenus par une première polymérisation de 3,4-époxy-1-butène afin de produire des précurseurs de polyéther insaturé comprenant les résidus (1A) et (2A) ayant les structures (1A) et (2A), puis par hydrogénation des précurseurs de polyéther insaturé. Il est avantageux d'effectuer l'hydrogénation en présence d'un catalyseur d'hydrogénation de nickel.
