Compositions and methods are described herein for use in packaging having improved moisture vapor barrier properties. In certain embodiments of the present invention, packaging articles can be made having improved oxygen barrier properties as well. Compositions of the present invention can comprise a low molecular weight hydrogenated aliphatic resin and either a high density polyethylene or a branched or linear low density polyethylene. The low molecular weight hydrogenated aliphatic resin has a weight-average molecular weight of less than about 2000 g/mol. Preferably, the low molecular weight hydrogenated aliphatic resin comprises hydrogenated poly (dicyclopentadiene) or the product of hydrogenating a polymer produced by polymerizing a reaction mixture comprising dicyclopentadiene.
L'invention concerne des compositions et des procédés destinés à être utilisés dans des emballages ayant des propriétés améliorées d'imperméabilité à la vapeur d'eau. Dans certains modes de réalisation, on peut obtenir des articles d'emballage ayant également des propriétés améliorées d'imperméabilité à l'oxygène. Les compositions selon l'invention peuvent contenir une résine aliphatique hydrogénée de faible poids moléculaire et soit un polyéthylène de haute densité, soit un polyéthylène ramifié ou linéaire de faible densité. La résine aliphatique hydrogénée de faible poids moléculaire présente un poids moléculaire moyen inférieur à environ 2000 g/mol. De préférence, la résine aliphatique hydrogénée de faible poids moléculaire contient du poly(dicyclopentadiène) hydrogéné ou le produit de l'hydrogénation d'un polymère obtenu par polymérisation d'un mélange de réaction contenant du dicyclopentadiène.
