A chromium ("Cr")-containing catalyst which is supported on a particulate metal oxide that has been treated with an alkyl aluminum is used to polymerize high density polyethylene having a comparatively low melt index. Alternatively, the subject catalyst may be efficiently employed at a comparatively high reaction temperature, especially in a gas phase polymerization process, to produce polyethylene having a conventional melt index.

Un catalyseur contenant du chrome (Cr) qui est supporté par un oxyde métallique sous forme de particule qui a été traité avec un alkylaluminium est utilisé pour polymériser du polyéthylène haute densité ayant un indice de fluage relativement faible.
