ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to adhesive tape useful in support- ing an array of parallel optical fibers in an optical transmission cable, comprising an adhesive-covered biaxially oriented poly- ethylene terephthalate film which is less than about 50 micrometers thick and exhibits gauche and trans parameters as described herein of between about 0.6 and 0.725 for the gauche parameter and about 3.1 or greater for the trans parameter; the tape shrinking on average less than about 0.2 percent in length upon exposure in an unstressed condition for two hours to 100°C and less than about 2 percent in length upon exposure in an unstressed condition for one hour at 175°C. The adhesive tape is dimensionally stable and is useful, for example, in supporting an array of parallel optical fibers in an optical transmission cable.
