The betaine compounds described correspond to formula (1) in which RCO is an aliphatic acyl group with 6 to 22 carbon atoms, Z is a straight-chain polyhydroxyhydrocarbon group with at least three optionally oxalkylated hydroxyl groups, m is a whole number from 1 to 4, n is a whole number from 1 to 4, R1 is C1 to C4 alkyl or C2 to C4 hydroxyalkyl and R2 is C1 to C4 alkyl or C2 to C4 hydroxyalkyl. The betaine compounds, and aqueous, alcoholic or aqueous-alcoholic solutions and dispersions of them, are prepared by betainization of the corresponding tertiary-amine compound with a halo acid or a halo acid salt. These betaine compounds and their solutions are suitable in particular for the production of surface-active agents for hair and body care.

L'invention concerne des composés de bétaïne de la formule (1) où RCO représente un reste acyle aliphatique avec 6 à 22 atomes de carbone, Z représente un groupe hydrocarbure polyhydroxylé linéaire avec au moins 3 groupes hydroxyle éventuellement oxalkylé, m représente un nombre entier compris entre 1 et 4, n représente un nombre entier compris entre 1 et 4, R?1¿ représente alkyle C¿1? à C¿4? ou hydroxyalkyle C¿2? à C¿4? et où R?2¿ représente alkyle C¿1? à C¿4? ou hydroxyalkyle C¿2? à C¿4?. Les composés de bétaïne et les solutions aqueuses, alcooliques ou aqueuses-alcooliques et les dispersions de ces solutions sont produites par bétaïnisation d'un composé amine tertiaire correspondant avec un hydracide halogéné ou sel d'hydracide halogéné. Les nouveaux composés de bétaïne et leurs solutions conviennent notamment à la production de substances tensioactives destinées aux soins capillaires et corporels.
