POLYHYDROXYL COMPOUNDS CONTAINING A SULFONIC ACID ESTER GROUP ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a process for the preparation of a polyhydroxyl compound which contains at least one sulphonic acid ester group prepared by (i) reacting a paraffin sulphochloride with an alcohol in the presence of a hydrogen chloride acceptor to form a solution of the polyhydroxyl compound in an organic phase, (ii) dissolving the organic phase in a suitable solvent, (iii) washing, dewatering and removing the solvent by distillation. The polyhydroxyl compound thus formed is suitable for the preparation of polyurethane cast resins.
