ABSTRACT The invention disclosed relates to a process for the production of polyketide pigmented antibiotics, from Streptomyces venezuelae ISP5230 (ATCC no. 10712), and to novel polyketide pigmented antibiotics. The novel compounds have the following structural formula: Image II Wherein R and R1 are ? or lower alkyl Of particular interest is a novel compound in which R is iso-butyl and R1 is methyl. This compound has been called Jadomycin B, and is particularly effective against Gram positive bacteria.
