A polymer composition, in particular an active substance-contain- ing depot material composition or an absorbent composition are disclosed which substantially consist of a water-soluble and/or water-swellable polymer based on polysaccharides as the main component, and a water-swellable, synthetic polymer as further component, used as polymeric components, and of a matrix mate- rial for the prevention of separation and gel blocking, an ionic or covalent cross-linking agent, as well as of an anti-blocking agent. Additionally their production and use as well as (animal) hygiene items and chemico-technical products are disclosed which com- prise these polymer compositions, these active-substance-contain- ing depot material compositions, or the absorbent compositions.
