ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Flame retardant polymer compositions comprise a polymer of styrene or another vinyl aromatic monomer, or a copolymer of styrene with another monomer or a polymer blend of a styrene polymer with another polymer, such as a polyphenylene oxide, and a triaryl phosphate of the formula: Image where x is 0, 1 or 2 and R1, R2 and R3 are the same or different and represent hydrogen, or an alkyl group having 1 to 9 carbon atoms. The compositions may also contain an oligomer and/or a novolak.
