There is provided a method of preparing a thermoplastic starch and synthetic polymer blend, comprising the steps of: (a) providing a starch suspension comprising starch, water and a plasticizer, preferably glycerol; (b) obtaining a thermoplastic starch from the starch suspension by causing gelatinization and plasticization by exerting heat and pressure in a first extrusion unit; (c) evaporating and venting off residual water from the thermoplastic starch to obtain a substantially moisture-free thermoplastic starch; (d) obtaining a melt of a synthetic polymer or polymer blend in a second extrusion unit; and (e) combining the melt obtained from step (d) with the substantially moisture-free thermoplastic starch. Also provided are compositions of matter comprising immiscible blends of thermoplastic starches, polymers, and compatibilizers.
La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant de préparer un mélange d'amidon thermoplastique et de polymère synthétique. Ce procédé consiste : (a) à préparer une suspension d'amidon comprenant de l'amidon, de l'eau et un plastifiant, de préférence du glycérol; (b) à obtenir un amidon thermoplastique à partir de la suspension d'amidon, par gélification et plastification réalisées par soumission à une chaleur et à une pression dans une première unité d'extrusion; (c) à évaporer et évacuer l'eau résiduelle de l'amidon thermoplastique, afin d'obtenir un amidon thermoplastique sensiblement exempt d'humidité; (d) à obtenir une masse fondue d'un mélange de polymères synthétiques ou de polymères, dans une seconde unité d'extrusion; puis (e) à combiner la masse fondue obtenue à l'étape (d) avec l'amidon sensiblement exempt d'humidité. La présente invention concerne également des compositions de matière, comprenant des mélanges non miscibles d'amidons thermoplastiques, de polymères et d'agents de compatibilité.
