In a rechargeable lithium battery which has a lithium anode, a lithium ion reducible cathode connected to a polymer, and a polymer electrolyte. Potassium ions are introduced at the cathode or in the electrolyte, or both at once, in such a way that potassium is distributed in the cathode and the electrolyte when the battery is at equilibrium. In this way, during cycling, the performance of the power source in terms of energy and power.
