The present invention is directed to a polymer matrix coating used for ink jet media. The polymer matrix coating has a glass transition temperature that is greater than or equal to about 120°C and less than or equal to about 300°C, an integrity value of greater than or equal to about -20% and a swellability of greater than or equal to about 50%. The coating avoids the problem of pigment ink cracking that can occur in conventional ink jet media.
