A polymeric candle which undergoes a phase transition from opaque to transparent when lit is described. Methods of making such candles also are described. The candle is formed from a candle composition which includes a wax and a polymeric material. The candle composition has a phase transition temperature of about 35~ C or higher. The candle composition is substantially opaque at a temperature below the phase transition temperature, whereas it becomes substantially transparent at or above the phase transition temperature. In addition to the wax and the polymeric material, the candle composition may further include a hydrocarbon oil or mixtures thereof, such as a white oil and/or a poly-.alpha.-olefin.

L'invention concerne une bougie polymère subissant une transition de phase d'opaque à transparente lorsqu'elle brûle. L'invention concerne en outre des procédés de fabrication de telles bougies. La bougie est formée à partir d'une composition pour bougie comprenant une cire et un matériau polymère. La composition pour bougie présente une température de transition de phase d'environ 35 ·C ou plus. La composition pour bougie est sensiblement opaque à une température inférieure à la température de transition de phase, tandis qu'elle devient sensiblement transparente à la température de transition de phase ou au-dessus de cette température. En plus de la cire et du matériau polymère, la composition pour bougie peut également renfermer une huile hydrocarbonée ou des mélanges de telles huiles, par exemple, une huile blanche et/ou une poly-.alpha.-oléfine.
