ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A self-supporting polymeric diffusion matrix pro- vides for the sustained release of propranolol in order to deliver the propranolol to a patient. The matrix comprises from about 1 to about 60% of a polar plasti- cizer, from about 6 to about 30% by weight polyvinyl- alcohol, from about 2 to about 30% by weight polyvinyl- pyrrolidone, and a pharmaceutically effective amount of propranolol to provide a sustained release of pro- pranolol over a prolcnged period.
