Copolymers, desirably having a molecular weight of from 500 to 20000, of aminoesters or aminoamides of (meth)acrylic acid and (meth)acrylamides at a molar ratio of from 10:1 to 60:1, particularly from 12:1 to 50:1 and especially about 20:1, can act as gas hydrate inhibitors in water containing hydrocarbon gas streams. Desirably the aminoesters or aminoamides are N-alkyl- amino(esters or amides) in particular of the formula (I): H2C=CR1 C(O)XR2NR3R4 (I) where R1, R2, R3, R4 and X have defined meanings and the (meth)acrylamides are of the formula (II): H2C=CR6C(O)NR7R8 (II) where R6, R7 and R8 have defined meanings. Methods of treating gas water mixtures using the copolymers to inhibit gas hydrate formation are described.

La présente invention décrit des copolymères, de préférence de masse moléculaire comprise entre 500 et 20 000, d~aminoesters ou d~aminoamides d~acide acrylique ou méthacrylique et d'acrylamides ou de méthacrylamides, dans un rapport molaire compris entre 10:1 et 60:1, plus particulièrement entre 12:1 et 50:1 et encore plus particulièrement d~environ 20:1. Lesdits copolymères peuvent agir en tant qu~inhibiteurs de formation d'hydrates gazeux dans une eau incluant des courants d~hydrocarbures gazeux. Dans un mode préféré de l'invention, les aminoesters ou les aminoamides sont des N-alkylaminoesters ou des N-alkylaminoamides de formule (I) : H2C=CR1C(O)XR2NR3R4 (I) où R1, R2, R3, R4 et X ont des valeurs précises, et les acrylamides ou méthacrylamides sont de formule (II) : H2C=CR6C(O)NR7R8 (II) où R6, R7 et R8 ont des valeurs précises. La présente invention décrit également des méthodes de traitement de mélanges eau-gaz employant lesdits copolymères pour inhiber la formation d'hydrates gazeux.
