An improved design of gas fed polymeric membrane fuel cell stack is herein described. The stack is provided with a humidifying device (4) which takes advantage of the atomisation of a water stream over a high specific surface metallic material, and with a cooling circuit (8) withdrawing the heat generated therein by thermal exchange on a peripheral region, external to the single cell active area. The device is particularly suited for high temperature and high current density operation.

L'invention concerne une conception améliorée d'empilement de piles à combustible à membrane polymère alimentées par gaz. L'empilement est pourvu d'un dispositif d'humidification qui utilise l'atomisation d'un écoulement d'eau sur une matière métallique à surface spécifique élevée, et d'un circuit de refroidissement qui extrait la chaleur produite par échange thermique sur une zone périphérique, externe à la zone active d'une seule pile. Le dispositif est particulièrement adapté à un fonctionnement à haute température et densité élevée de courant.
