2088250 9203481 PCTABS00010 Emulsion or suspension polymerisation processes are carried out whilst subjecting the reactants to ultrasonic vibration. In a preferred embodiment a whistle reactor is used in a closed loop system comprising a pump and a reaction vessel. The polymerisation may be accelerated and may be carried out in the absence of any micelle forming surfactant. The products are polymer latexes which can be used, e.g. as pressure sensitive adhesives.
