A solution process for polymerizing one or more .alpha.-olefins of formula CH2=CHR, where R is H or an alkyl radical C1-12, to produce a polymer that is soluble in the reaction medium, the process comprising: (a) polymerizat ion in a solution phase of one or more .alpha.-olefins in the presence of an organo- aluminum compound and a catalyst system comprising a transition metal compound as the catalyst component; (b) the polymeric solution obtained from step a) is then pressurized and transferred by means of a screw pump to a successive step for removing the unreacted monomers from the polymer; wherein the pumping capacity of said screw pump is kept constant by adding the polymeric solution with water at a feeding point upstream the screw pump.

L'invention concerne un procédé de polymérisation en solution d'une ou de plusieurs .alpha.-oléfines de formule CH2=CHR, dans laquelle R est l'hydrogène ou un radical alkyle en C1-12, permettant d'obtenir un polymère soluble dans le milieu réactionnel, ledit procédé comprenant : (a) la polymérisation en solution d'une ou de plusieurs .alpha.-oléfines en présence d'un composé organo-aluminum et d'un système catalytique comprenant un composé d'un métal de transition en tant que composant catalytique ; (b) la mise sous pression de la solution polymérique obtenue à l'étape a) et le transfert au moyen d'une pompe à vis vers une étape successive d'élimination des monomères n'ayant pas réagi du polymère ; la capacité de pompage de ladite pompe à vis étant maintenue constante en ajoutant de l'eau à la solution polymérique au niveau d'un point d'alimentation situé en amont de la pompe à vis.
