Homopolymers of olefin monomers having polar functional groups, and copolymers of these monomers with each other and with non-polar olefins and optionally carbon monoxide are disclosed. The polymers can be prepared by contacting the corresponsping monomers with a transition metal catalyst under comparatively mild conditions; this preserves at least some of the polar functional groups in the resulting polymer. The polymers are suitable for processing in conventional extrusion processes, and can be formed into high barrier sheets or films, or low molecular weight resins for use in synthetic waxes in wax coatings or as emulsions.
L'invention concerne des homopolymères de monomères d'oléfine possédant des groupes fonctionnels polaires, et des copolymères obtenus par copolymérisation de ces monomères l'un avec l'autre et avec des oléfines non polaires, et éventuellement un monoxyde de carbone. Les polymères peuvent être préparés par mise en contact des monomères correspondants avec un catalyseur de métal de transition dans des conditions relativement modérées; cette opération permet de préserver au moins quelques uns des groupes fonctionnels polaires du polymère obtenu. Les polymères sont appropriés pour un traitement dans des procédés d'extrusion classiques, et peuvent être formés en feuilles ou films haute barrière, ou en résines à faible poids moléculaire destinées à être utilisées comme cire artificielle pour des revêtements de cire, ou comme émulsions.
