Disclosed are a polymer which is capable of inhibiting denaturation of proteins and which has at least in a surface layer, structural units having 2 or 3 fluorine atoms on a first carbon atom which is bonded to a second carbon atom which carries a hydroxyl group but no other trifluoromethyl group when the first carbon atom carries 3 fluorine atoms, several processes for producing the polymer and a shaped article made of such a polymer or having a part made of such a polymer.
