This invention relates to polymorphic forms of the S-enantiomer of omeprazole which is S-5-methoxy-2-[[(4-methoxy-3,5-dimethyl-2-pyridinyl)-methyl]sulfinyl]- 1H~benzimidazole. The invention also relates to processes for preparing the polymorphic forms. More particularly, it relates to the preparation of two polymorphic forms of S~omeprazole, referred to as 'Form I' and 'Form II' and pharmaceutical compositions that include the 'Form I' and 'Form II'.
