The invention relates to the use of the GTPase gene family as a target for nucleic acid based assays for the detection and differentiation of prokaryotic organisms. The invention relates to polynucleic acids derived from gene sequences encoding prokaryotic GTPase (=GTP-binding) proteins, as well as their use in the detection and identification of prokaryotic organisms; primers and probes derived from said polynucleic acid sequences, for specific amplification and detection of prokaryotic DNA in a biological sample; as well as methods and kits allowing the detection and identification of at least one microorganism, and preferentially several microorganisms simultaneously in a sample. More specifically, the invention relates to new polynucleic acid sequences encoding GTPase proteins from Campylobacter species, primers and probes derived from them, and methods and kits comprising these reagents for the detection and differentiation of species belonging to the genus Campylobacter.

L'invention décrit l'utilisation de la famille des gènes GTPase en tant que cible pour des dosages à base d'acide nucléique en vue de détecter et différencier des organismes procaryotes. L'invention concerne des acides polynucléiques dérivés de séquences de gènes codant des protéines (de liaison-GTP=) GTPase procaryotes, ainsi que leur utilisation dans la détection et l'identification d'organismes procaryotes; des amorces et des sondes dérivées desdites séquences d'acide polynucléique pour l'amplification et la détection spécifique d'ADN procaryote dans un échantillon biologique; ainsi que des procédés et des kits permettant la détection et l'identification d'au moins un micro-organisme et de préférence plusieurs micro-organismes simultanément dans un échantillon. De manière plus spécifique, l'invention concerne de nouvelles séquences d'acide polynucléique codant des protéines GTPase à partir de l'espèce Campylobacter, des amorces et des sondes dérivées de celles-ci, et des procédés et des kits comprenant lesdits réactifs pour la détection et la différenciation d'espèces appartenent au genre Campylobacter.
