The invention provides novel polypeptides, designated herein as SECX polypeptides, as well as polynucleotides encoding SECX polypeptides. Also provided are antibodies that immunospecifically-bind to SECX polypeptide or polynucleotide, or derivatives, variants, mutants, or fragments thereof. The invention additionally provides methods in which the SECX polypeptide, polynucleotide, and antibody are used in the detection, prevention, and treatment of a broad range of pathological states.
