ABSTRACT A new polypeptide compound has the new following general formula: Image In the above formula, R1 is hydrogen or hydroxy, R2 is hydrogen or hydroxy, and R3 is hydroxy or hydroxy- sulfonyloxy, with the condition that when R1 is hydrogen, R2 is also hydrogen. There is also provided a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of the above poly- peptide compound, and a process for the preparation of the polypeptide compound and a salt thereof which are very active against a number of pathogenic micro- organisms. Also provided is a pharmaceutical compo- sition which comprises, as an active ingredient, the polypeptide compound or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof in admixture with pharmaceutically acceptable carriers. A method for treating infectious diseases caused by pathogenic microorganisms comprises administering the polypeptide compound to infected human beings or animals.
