Presently, there are no papillomavirus-specific antigens that have unambiguously identified as being either expressed during, or indicative of, latent human papillomavirus (HPV). The present invention relates to polypeptides that immunologically mimic human papillomavirus latent proteins and to antibodies and monoclonal antibodies that immunoreact with human papillomavirus latent proteins. Systems and methods for detecting the presence and type of papillomavirus in a human subject are also described.
