The present invention relates to a purified polypeptide, and the polynucleotide encoding same, naturally involved in fungal biofilm formation. More specifically, the polypeptide of the present invention is overexpressed in a fungus during biofilm growth compared to planktonic growth. The present invention also relates to a method for identifying compounds that inhibit such polypeptides as well as for identifying compounds that affect biofilm formation; and use of such compounds in compositions and methods for the prevention and the treatment of biofilm forming fungus-associated diseases, such as those caused by Candida albicans.
