ABSTRACT Polyurethane backed textiles, particularly polyurethane backed carpets and carpet tiles can be prepared having a critical radiant flux of greater than or equal to 0.45 watts/cm2. The improved flammability performance is achieved by using ZnCO3 or MgCO3 as flame retardants. The use of the flame retardants of the present invention allows for improved flammability properties compared to otherwise similar backed textiles prepared with conventional flame retardants. The flame retardants of the present invention can have no substantial affect on polyisocyanate reactivity which can minimize reformulation experimentation.
