A light guide (1) formed from an unclad flexible polyurethane fibre produces significant side scattering (2) over distances of up to several metres. The polyurethane fibre is in the form of a solid fibre or a tube and may comprise light scattering particles. The polyurethane fibre may comprise a transparent flexible polyurethane UV resistant outer cladding. Embodiments include illuminated shoe laces, a power cord safety indicator, an illuminated dental suction tube and a dental curing tip.

La fibre en polyuréthane est sous forme d~une fibre solide ou d~un tube et peut comprendre des particules de diffusion de la lumière. La fibre en polyuréthane peut comprendre une gaine externe en polyuréthane, résistante aux UV, flexible, transparente. Des modes de réalisation comprennent des lacets de chaussures éclairés, un indicateur de sécurité de cordon d~alimentation, un tube d~aspiration dentaire éclairé et une pointe de polymérisation de prothèses dentaires.
