Vividly colored absorbent articles useful as wiping articles and a method for their manufacture. A preferred article is characterized by (a) a nonwoven web comprised of organic fibers having a plurality of pendant hydroxyl groups; (b) a binder comprising a cross-linked polyvinyl alcohol and a hydrophobic polymer coated on at least a portion of the fibers, (c) pigment distributed within the binder.

Cette invention a trait à des articles absorbants, vivement colorés, des plus utiles comme torchons, ainsi qu'à leur technique de production. L'un des articles préférés se caractérise par le fait qu'il comporte, (a), un voile non tissé constitué de fibres organiques possédant plusieurs groupes hydroxyles pendants, (b), un liant composé d'un alcool polyvinylique et d'un polymère hydrophobe enrobant une partie, au moins, des fibres et, (c), un pigment réparti dans le liant.
