A method for preparing a porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus protein is disclosed. This method involves obtaining a gene encoding the desired protein, then inserting the gene within a vector suitable for transforming a plant and transforming a plant with the vector. Following growth of the transformed plant, the desired tissues may be harvested and the protein is extracted from the harvested tissue. This invention is also directed at a method of immunizing pigs against porcine reproductive respiratory syndrome comprising harvesting the transformed plant to obtain harvested tissue and feeding the harvested tissue to pigs, or extracting the protein from the harvested tissue and administering the protein to the pig as a food supplement, or as an injection. However, direct grazing of the plant tissue prior to harvested may also be employed as desired.
La présente invention concerne un procédé de préparation d'une protéine virale du syndrome dysgénique respiratoire porcin. Ce procédé consiste tout d'abord à obtenir un gène codant la protéine désirée, à l'introduire ensuite dans un vecteur approprié pour transformer une plante, puis à transformer une plante avec ce vecteur. Après la croissance de la plante transformée, on peut récolter les tissus désirés et en extraire la protéine précitée. Cette invention concerne par ailleurs un procédé destiné à immuniser les porcs contre le syndrome dysgénésique respiratoire, consistant à récolter la plante transformée de manière à obtenir des tissus récoltés qui seront ensuite administrés aux cochons, ou à extraire ladite protéine des tissus récoltés et à l'administrer aux cochons comme supplément alimentaire, ou en injection. On peut néanmoins laisser paître les cochons directement dans les tissus végétaux avant leur récolte.
