The invention concerns a catalytic combustion afterburner (3) made of porous material, comprising in its lower part (3a) a substantially axial cavity (6) for receiving a taper (4) designed to convey to the burner (3) a combustible liquid (2), and in its upper part (3b) an annular peripheral zone (7) bearing a catalyst and enclosing a central zone (40) without catalyst forming a vaporising zone. Said afterburner comprises in its upper part (3b) an open duct (8), communicating the cavity (6) upper part (24) with the outside air.
