A porous particulate material for treating a fluid containing a contaminant is disclosed. The particulate material comprises a cementitious matrix or binder and treated bauxite refinery residue or red mud. At least a portion of the pores in the particulate material is open cell or interconnected pores. The invention also relates to the use of a reactive permeable barrier comprising porous material, for treating a contaminated fluid. Also disclosed is a method for producing porous particulate material for treating a contaminated fluid and a method for treating a contaminated fluid, in which the porous material is used. The invention furthermore relates to a cementitious composition comprising partially neutralised red mud and cement, wherein the partially neutralised red mud has been pre-treated by contacting it with water having a total hardness supplied by calcium, magnesium or a combination thereof, of at least 3.5 millimoles per litre calcium carbonate equivalent. The cementitious composition is useful as a building and construction material.
L'invention concerne une matière particulaire poreuse destinée au traitement d'un fluide contenant un contaminant. Cette matière particulaire comprend une matrice ou un liant à base de ciment et de la boue rouge ou un résidu de raffinerie de bauxite traité. Au moins une partie des pores de la matière particulaire comprend des alvéoles ouverts ou des pores interconnectés. L'invention concerne également l'utilisation d'une barrière perméable réactive comprenant une matière poreuse, destinée au traitement d'un fluide contaminé. L'invention concerne également un procédé de production d'une matière particulaire poreuse destinée au traitement d'un fluide contaminé et un procédé de traitement d'un fluide contaminé, dans lequel la matière poreuse est utilisée. L'invention concerne également une composition à base de ciment comprenant de la boue rouge partiellement neutralisée et du ciment, la boue rouge partiellement neutralisée ayant été prétraitée par mise en contact avec de l'eau ayant une dureté dotale fournie par du calcium, du magnésium ou un mélange des deux, d'au moins 3,5 millimoles équivalent par litre de carbonate de calcium. La composition à base de ciment est utile comme matériau de construction.
