ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A portable and foldable catcher for a free-falling body is disclosed which includes a portable base frame comprised of foldable elements including two substantially U-shaped supports which, in the unfolded condition of the base frame, are disposed in substantially parallel relation to one another; said U-shaped supports being interconnected by transverse struts and by oppositely situated support bars respectively-holding the opposite sides of a material web whose remaining sides are unsupported; means for tensioning the web material being provided at least at one side of the base frame between the U-shaped supports and the support bars.
