The invention relates to a portable device (10) for authenticating a user, comprising a single housing (101) in which is housed a means (16) for activating the device, such as a key that must be pressed by the user, a microprocessor (32) that performs a calculation when the device (10) is activated, the calculation using an algorithm based on a secret key stored in a memory (37) and resulting in a dynamic password, the device (10) being such that the memory (37) in which the secret key is stored is placed inside the housing (101) and is removably connected to the device.
