The invention is a portable boom and is a lifting device attached to an agricultural machine used for carrying and distributing particulate material like seed, fertilizer or other granular products that are used in the agricultural industry. These agricultural machines are commonly called air carts, air seeders or air drifts. The portable boom is used to tiff mini- bulk bags or containers from their storage location or from a transport vehicle used to carry the bags or containers to the location of the air cart in the field. After the bags or containers have been lifted off the transport vehicle, they can be located over the intake end of the portable loading device on the air cart, typically an auger. As another option, the bags or containers can be located over the filling hole at the top of the tank(s) of the air cart. When it is desired to clean out remaining seed from the air cart, the portable boom can be used to position the bag or container under the discharge of the auger as it is used to unload the product from the tank of the air cart. The portable boom is designed to put minimal stresses on the air cart to which it is attached.
