The present invention discloses a portable compressor unit which consists of a compressor frame with a compressor mounted therein, and an engine frame with an engine mounted therein, the frames being adapted for sliding engagement with each other. The configuration of the frames and the mounting of the compressor and engine in the respective frames is adapted to provide for ease of connection between the engine and compressor by a drive belt and tensioning of the drive belt by sliding the frames relative to one another to a position where a desired tension is applied to the belt. The frames are adapted to be stackable for ease of transportation and use in rough terrain.
