A portable container (100) for carrying one or more tools has an outer surface (104) provided with means (114) for retaining a work surface, such as a chopping board, thereon. Retaining members (114), such as flanges and/or pins may be positioned at or adjacent the periphery of the outer surface (104). The retaining members (114) may be moveable and/or detachable. Alternatively, the retaining members (114) may be integral with the outer surface (104).
