ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A portable data carrier comprises at least one minia- turized circuit having several memory sections, means for trans- ferring data between the carrier and a data transfer device man- ual setting means on the surface of the carrier for presetting program elements in the miniaturized circuit, a display window fox displaying data in humanly readable form, a first single button for placing an n- digit decimal number into a first variable memory section of the miniaturized circuit, and circuit means for enabling an operator to effect this operation while re- ceiving visual feedback from the display window. The carrier can serve as a long-life multiple account pay token. The pur- pose of producing a long-life multiple account pay token is gradually to reduce the demand of coins and bank notes thereby lowering the high cost of minting and printing them. In parallel therewith, the relatively high cost of operating cheque accounts by Banks shall be reduced.
