ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A portable testing device for measuring hot tack of heat-sealable film is disclosed. The device comprises a guide having spaced apart surfaces adapted to separate one portion of a heat-sealable film from a second portion, film contacting means remote from the guide, and tensioning means connected thereto and adapted to supply force to urge the first and second film portions to separate at the heat seal. The ten- sioning means may be an adjustable spring or a weight capable of being varied. The device may be used for measuring hot tack i.e. the strength of heat seals prior to solidification of the polymer, of thermoplastic heat-sealable films or films with heat-sealable coatings.
