A lighting device to be worn on the body of a person during ambulatory activities, is operative in an "on" state to illuminate a path on the surface forwardly of the person. The device comprises: a suspension member to engage a portion of the body of the person, and a housing secured to the suspension member so as to downwardly depend from the portion of the body. A light disposed in the housing is operative in the "on" state to emit light along a transmission axis. The housing is secured to the suspension member such that, when the person is in an upright position and the housing is in a freely suspended relationship to the person and the transmission axis is oriented obliquely to a horizontal support surface. The housing may be spherical in shape. The light may have a battery powered electric element.
