A portable surge protection adapter includes housing having at least one electrical outlet including a plurality of prong receiving appertures formed in an outer face of the housing. An electrical plug has at least two electrical prongs extending from another outer face of the housing and being adapted to deliver power to the outlet. A conditioning circuit mounted in the adapter housing is electrically connected between the plug and the outlet. A prong cover pivots between a first position at which the prong cover encloses the prongs and a second position at which the prongs are exposed and insertable into a powered outlet. Data input and output ports are mounted in an exterior face of the prong cover. A data conditioning circuit is connected between the data input and output ports and is mounted in the prong cover. The conditioning circuit includes a branch which provide surge protection and a branch which disables one of the data ports whenever the other data port is being used.
